Indiana Wants Me…

When the 2025 WNBA ticket sales opened up last December, Roger was waiting at his computer to snag some seats at Gainbridge Fieldhouse so we could see the Indiana Fever play at home in Indianapolis. The summer car trip planning was underway and we knew we were heading to the Midwest Tandem Rally in Westfield, about 25 miles North of Indy. So why not make the plan to see CaitlIn Clark play at home? It all worked (sorta). We nabbed the tix, got an Air B&B around the corner from the arena, and made a reservation at St. Elmo Steakhouse. Unfortunately CaitlIn has been injured most of the season and although we were happy to see the team win, seeing her sit on the bench was disappointing.

There was some CaitlIn excitement because Nike unveiled the new CC signature logo at the game. Free T-shirts and cookies for everyone!

Free shirts on every seat!
The game was a lot of fun, and the win made it even better!

While in Indy, we took the tandem out for a little urban riding! The Cultural Trail is downtown and has impressive bike lanes right in the sidewalk structure.

We figured out where to ride by following this brown and beige path. Lots of road crossings.

Ultimately we ended up on the southern-most part of the Monon Trail.

Cool, thoughtful murals and occasional art installations (below).
If the Fever outscore their opponents in the third quarter, everyone gets FREE cheese curds! (Andes mint “explosion” was an excellent addition.)

On a different day we got to ride on the Central Canal Towpath. It was built for transport, but is now used for local water supply and recreation.

It was actually a dusty narrow path and we were happy when we completed our 4-mile stint.

We were even happier when we rode to Shapiro’s for lunch!

We shared a “Cornami” (corned beef & pastrami) sandwich!
Here is the whole meal, there were potato latkes, matzo ball soup and marble pound cake with chocolate icing.

I teased the reservation at St. Elmo Steakhouse, so I’m going to deliver. It’s a historic landmark that’s been around since 1902, and happens to be Peyton Manning’s favorite place to eat. (He’s famous in these parts.) The signature dish is the shrimp cocktail, giant shrimp with “potent” horseradish cocktail sauce. This time we got the potent stuff on the side and my stomach and taste buds were appreciative.

Can you smell the horseradish? The mild sauce also had a kick.
This is the (small) prime rib, tater and green beans.
I had the (small) filet mignon. Perfection!

This wraps the three days of fun in Indianapolis. In our next post, we move 25 miles north to Westfield and join 400 of our closest friends for the Midwest Tandem Rally.
