Movin’ To Montana Soon

Props to you if you recognize the Frank Zappa song about growing dental floss. Meanwhile…there are only two more states to go in our quest to ride the tandem in all of the “lower 48”. We’ve moved 300 miles east to Montana, where the people are incredibly nice. Perhaps it’s because there is so much space and so few residents? Google tells me there are 94 million acres and just over a million people – very roomy!

We spent two nights and one bike ride in Bozeman. The restaurants, ice cream shop and brewery we visited were quite impressive. Every person we met during our stay was warm, friendly and welcoming. The first night we visited the Aleworks and had a mini-flight each with our dinner.

Fabulous local brews.

At dinner, our server gave us a hot ice cream tip, and off we went to Genuine Ice Cream. After about a 20-minute wait in line, our lick and turn party began.

I had huckleberry and honey lavender. Roger (whose cone has not started dripping yet) had salted caramel and cinnamon graham cracker.

While we enjoyed our ice cream and posed for photos, sunset happened. We now understand why the name Big Sky is appropriate. The sky was spectacular and these pics can barely do it justice!

The next morning we donned our brand new “Route of the Hiawatha” jerseys and got to our 30-mile loop ride.

There was not much to see other than fields of mostly harvested hay. Does anyone have a fever for this large pile of hay?

We were so glad we had brought along this tasty almond cherry muffin for our snack!
Mountains within sight and very few cars on the road.

At the very end of our loop we rode through the campus of Montana State University. We visited their football stadium and took in the sights.

They are the Bobcats, and very proud.

It’s a college town, which explains all the breweries. We picked their “top rated” MAP Brewing, because as it is explained, every great adventure starts with a MAP. It’s an amazing setting on a lake, with outdoor seating to enjoy your beer while you wait for your table. The place was packed on a Monday night 🤷‍♀️. Go figure!

This was a perfect German beer.
The view while we sipped was wonderful.
Here is the view without the beer.
No explanation needed here! Yum!

It seemed like a (too) short visit to a lovely state that neither of us had ever visited before, but it was time to move on. Montana moves into the “checked” column. Only one more state to go. Have you figured out what it is? The answer is coming in our next post.
