Bonus Time in California

Eleven rides and close to 400 miles during a week when everyone in Orange County, CA couldn’t stop talking about, and apologizing for the rain. I’d say that’s a great getaway, and a terrific week of training!

We are six weeks away from the start of our epic ride across the country and the excitement is mounting.

Our second weekend on the left coast features a tandem club ride organized by the So. California Tandems.  Special guests Mel and Barbara Kornbluth (of Tandems East fame) are in town and that calls for a celebration.

15 tandems enjoy a brilliantly sunny day and a coastal ride from Solana Beach to Oceanside and back.  Thanks to Jonathan Gerber for making this ride happen.

The following day we brave a cool morning to ride once again with Brit and Kevin.  It’s a treat to get a few more rides in with them.

It’ll probably be well over a year before we see them again because they are going to set sail for the South Pacific right around the time we dip our front wheel in the Atlantic Ocean (late April).

We wish them bon voyage, and a safe journey.
Our final ride, before storing the bike with Nancy and Michael, is a remote start from Dana Point.

The bike rack has opened up so many more options for us and we are taking advantage of exploring different routes. We have mostly protected riding on our way to Camp Pendleton.

  1. Great pictures! Especially good pic of Roger and Kevin in our group shot. Thanks for including us in your training. The rides with you have been my most favorite. 😊
