Two Weeks Two-Gether in Two-son

Now for something completely different. We move spring training to Tucson just in time for the end of the baseball lockout!

We took time from our extended period of relaxation in SoCal for two action-packed weeks in Tucson, AZ. We were last in these-here parts five years ago during our epic journey from coast to coast with Bubba’s Pampered Pedalers (you can read about it here). When we visited the area in 2017 we really enjoyed ourselves and particularly loved the sophisticated trail system around and through the city.

The Loop: it’s like a cycling super highway!

When friends Caren and Mike invited us to their new home in Oro Valley, we decided to rent an air B&B so we could stay a few weeks and we are so glad we did!

Riding with Mike and Caren

With perfect weather as our constant companion, we did 10 rides (about 350 miles) and also got to play tourist on our days off.

Four of our rides included a stop at La Estrella Bakery!

We visited and rode with friends old and new and even took part in a small C2C reunion before we skedaddled and headed back to Cal-i-forn-i-a.

SoCal friends Kevin and Britt were in the area and we got together for a ride and lunch.

On our first day off, we visited the Pima Air and Space Museum. They have an entire fleet of classic planes, including some Air Force Ones from the 60’s and 70’s.

We also popped up to Casa Grande to meet sister Stacie for a tour of the Neon Sign Park and a yummy lunch. Don’t miss the Cook-E-Jar the next time you are in Casa Grande.

The park is pretty new (2019) and has some great restored local signs.

Who doesn’t like saguaro cacti? There’s two national parks full of them in Tucson. We rode thru the eastern one and drove thru the western one on our way to the Sonora Desert Museum.

The desert museum is a “must see”!

Bubba Baron was in town and we caught up with his Arizona tour at a swanky Tucson hotel. We hear we missed a good dinner.

That’s Bubba holding court on his Southern AZ Tour.

I would be remiss if I didn’t backtrack and tell you that we spent the first week in March in SoCal. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary with dinner at the Side Door (our favorite haunt) and a Deke Dickerson concert at Campus Jax.

They do beer right!
Deke is a favorite and we always try to see him when we can!

There’s too much to talk about and fit this all in one post. In our next installment, the tales of Tucson continue with green beer, sprinkles, rainbows and a visit to…Yuma! Don’t touch that dial.

  1. Fun to read this upbeat post. Thank you. Great Tucson photos and descriptions, Eve. Jay and I really enjoyed our time with you and Roger- riding on a glorious warm day, lunch at Magpie’s, then the frosting-on-the-cake (actually the homemade apple walnut cake by Mike Bianco was so delicious it needed no frosting) 60th birthday party for your friend Caren Bianco. Great setting, engaging Oro Tandem couples, homemade cake and cookies…

  2. Thanks for the great post….allowed us to re-live our visit to Tucson when we were RVers and after we left you in So Cal in 2020. Hope to see you in our (GA) neck of the woods. Safe travels. Dave and Jane
