Pretzel Heaven

Pretzel and pastry paradise is what we experienced for five days in the Lancaster area! At the risk of losing my readers who are just here for the food pics, I’m going to lead with pretzels and pastries and save the creamy, rich, straight-from-the-dairy ice cream for last!

The cycling in Lancaster, PA is great. It’s been five years since we were last here after an Eastern Tandem Rally (ETR) in Hanover, NH. This time we are training in the hills of Amish Country ahead of a hilly ETR coming up in State College, PA, the home of Penn State University. We are not alone – Mitzi and John have joined us and it’s a whole lot more fun to explore with another couple!

Things are always more fun with friends!

We did four rides and I can report that there has been a significant amount of growth in the form of new subdivisions and more people and more traffic in areas that were almost “car-less” in 2017.  Progress happens and there is nothing we can do about it.

We visited bakeries, breweries and dairies with fresh and creamy ice cream, we visited farms and covered bridges and we captured it all in the picture essay that follows!

Ride One: Welcome to Amish Country

Ride Two: Ice Cream Straight From the Cow

On the way to the Dairy

Ride Three: Five Covered Bridges

Covered bridge day!

Ride Four: Intercourse on the Bike

These are not all the same bridge!

There really is a town called Intercourse in Pennsylvania. The city limit sign is the proof.

We shared four fantastic rides in the rolling hills of Lancaster. I didn’t forget about the ice cream!

We left Lancaster when it was 63 degrees and raining. Obviously, we used up all of the great weather and it was time to move on to State College and the ETR. Next time you hear from me will probably be when we are on the way home.

  1. Hi Eve and Roger. Looks like you had a great time in Penn St. From the looks of things we would like to go there as well. If you have routes would you share with us and I’ll store them as treasures😉.

Glad you’re out and about and having fun!

  2. It was fun seeing the pictures from Lancaster County. We just missed you. We have just now moved to the Greenville/Spartanburg area this month. I guess we are closer to your home base.😀
