Sandcastles, Unicorns and Flights of Fancy

We’ve been on the west coast for several weeks and it’s time to check in. The fun factor has been as high as the weather has been spectacular! Riding at least five times a week is time consuming, but we have carved out time for some other activities as well.

Celebrating Roger’s birthday 🎉was one of the first orders of business. Dinner at CdM restaurant was terrific and there were enough leftovers for lunch too!

I had a beer and Roger had an Old Fashioned…because he was feeling old!
The pork chop was huge!
This is a chicken pot pie Calzone. Peas and carrots on the outside, chicken and mashed potatoes inside a delicate pastry…decadent!
Happy, Happy Birthday to Roger!

The sandcastle competition was fierce this year. The theme was Rock the Sand.

The 20+ participants were more creative than this style!
Here we are with the Chamber of Commerce “professional” creation behind us.
Participants were still hard at work when we stopped by.

The beach was crowded and the surf was rough, in fact there were riptide warnings and advisories all week.

We had a ride and visit with Kevin and Britt.
We also visited with some of the new sculptures along the Freeway Trail.
On our off day we took in some puzzling exhibits at the OCMA.
We celebrated Oktoberfest at a new (for us) brewery, recently named the best brewery by the readers of the Orange County Register. Ein Prosit!
This was a particularly wonderful pretzel!

The Huntington Beach Air Show is usually a crowd pleaser. Last year it was a bust – we experienced terrible, cloudy misty weather for the entire three days and could not actually see any planes. This year the weather was glorious, and the Canadian stunt planes and their “fancy flights” were awesome.

Great times at the beach!

I promised Unicorns…I will deliver! We found the elusive Halloween Unicorns in nearby neighborhoods.

Look carefully, there is a blue unicorn on the right, and a tan one lower left!

Next up, a tandem weekend in Paso Robles, CA.

  1. Sorry we missed you on this trip, but looks like a fabulous birthday celebration (Happy Birthday! 🥳), and the weather was perfect for your rides and air show. Have a fun time in Paso Robles–beautiful place. 🥰
