Coast 2 Coast Day 8: Eight Days a Week

This first week of our Coast 2 Coast trip was 8 consecutive days of riding.  We are now in the magnificent Catalina State Park for two nights.  We get to rest our bones, butts, and bodies while enjoying the Saguaro and the views.

But first, a mention of our wonderful dessert last night–ICE CREAM,  Make your own banana splits.

After 74 miles, our longest ride in a few years, I most definitely earned two scoops and two cherries on top!

This was a hard day on the bike.  Slightly uphill, and with a slight headwind. Part of the time we are sandwiched between trains and cars going the other way.

There was a negative suck from being so close to I-10 with the traffic heading west.
The first rest-stop was in the foothills of Picacho Peak where the cacti are sharp and the shopping is plentiful.

Those of you who know my husband understand the next picture.

Lunch at Nicos Mexican Restaurant featured the largest quesadilla we have ever seen.

This is one quesadilla (which cost a whopping $6.50)

We are joined by a special guest.  Stacie (Roger’s sister) lives not too far away in Scottsdale and is visiting our campsite for the night.

During dinner we watch the sun set over the Catalina Mountains.

And we watch the full moon rise over our tired, but happy group.

Tomorrow:  Our first rest day, but before we go, today’s stats:

  4. Good thing you are on a southern route… After weeks of above average temps and snow melt, we are preparing for a Nor’easter. First, 8+ days of below freezing temps and wind chills of neg 15. Then the real insult is the forecast of 1-2 feet of snow mid-week.
Tuesday is our town voting and we are expecting blizzard conditions. Not good for our community.
Enjoy your day of rest, the company of your family, the sun and cacti!

  5. Eve, Such a beautiful smile on such a wonderful and beautiful person! Rodger is one lucky dude.
