A Pot of Gold

63 tandem teams came together in Dublin, Georgia. The goal: ride and have a great time. “Mission accomplished” for the participants of the Georgia Tandem Rally.

Ten months of work came to fruition as welcomed everyone to our first social function of the weekend. It’s a party on the rooftop of the Saltwater Fishery tiki bar in “downtown” Dublin.

Five boxes of goodie bags filled with SWAG.

Friday morning featured temps in the low 70’s (and low-ish humidity) at the ride start. We lucked out on day one.

Group resting at the Friendly Gus in Dudley (where they were very friendly).

We lunched at Deano’s Italian. There is nothing better than a New York style cheese pizza!

We rested and recharged after the Friday ride and got ready for a great dinner downtown and then our next fun social event, Rosie’s Handmade Ice Cream.

The store owner gave us a lesson about the history of Rosie’s (it’s his daughter’s name) and then we were served at the Market on Main.

Our good friends from Visit Dublin (the convention and visitors bureau) arranged for us to have the use of their “step and repeat” wall for the evening. It made for lots of fun photos and we also had the surprise of the night when “Lucky” showed up!

We welcome Lucky to GTR!
Thanks to Miriam for bringing “Lucky” to our party!

Saturday was GTR jersey day and we had participants wearing all four versions of our jersey, with a heavy emphasis on the newest edition.

The mayor of Dublin didn’t welcome us to the city, but Councilwoman Sarah Kolbie greeted us and thanked us for coming. After Roger’s ride talk, we were off to enjoy the quiet roads of Laurens County.

Our evening festivities started at the brand new Crooked Finger Brewery and then moved on to the first GTR banquet in 5 years.

Dinner was an authentic low-country boil prepared by a chef from Louisiana who happens to be the owner of Crooked Finger, Company Supply and the Ice House where we held our banquet. It was a vertical monopoly and it all worked beautifully.

On Sunday morning we had one more (short) ride before GTR wrapped up. The heat was on, so it’s a good thing it was a quick 22 miles!

Last riders meeting of the week.

Dublin Police and Laurens County Sheriffs escort us through a busy intersection at the ride start.
Britt and Kevin ride with us in the Eastern time zone!
Thanks to Angela for this picture of us representing for Memorial Day.
There was time for just one final store photo!

And then, before we knew it we were saying our goodbyes and another (#24) Georgia Tandem Rally was history! Thanks to all who participated and helped make it a success.

Cheers!

Next up on our social calendar, we will embark for the Eastern Tandem Rally in Gettysburg, PA. We’ll tell you all about it and other adventures along the way in our next edition.
